New early release scams fact sheet

July 8th, 2020

The government has produced a new fact sheet to warn super fund members about how scammers are taking advantage of its temporary early release of superannuation measures.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) fact sheet shares details of a range of phishing scams and cold-call tactics that con artists are using to steal money from super accounts. It also advises people to check their myGov accounts to check that there are no unexpected applications for financial relief and that their contact details have not been changed.

More information on currents scams is available on the Scamwatch website, including how to make a report, and where to get help.

If you are worried that a phone call, email, or text message concerning your super may be a scam, hang up or delete the message.

Members can also check whether a message about their First Super account is genuine by contacting our Member Services Team on 1300 360 988 or mail@firstsuper.com.au.
